"The discipline of Spanish offers a versatile spectrum of possibilities. Since time immemorial, learning a foreign language has been recognized as one of the best methods to train the human mind. Adding the study of literatures to the study of languages permits the expansion of the initial experiences of linguistic differences into the realm of major historical/cultural differences between countries and continents. The skills gained this way are invaluable because they both prepare students for the world of work, but also to continue to be intellectually active and curious about other cultures and other times."

Professor Greenwood’s teaching and research are closely related and she seeks to engage her students in both processes. By keeping up with research in her multi-disciplinary fields (language, literatures, the arts, and women’s studies), she is able to articulate connections that bring fresh ideas and perspectives to her classes. Wells has offered her the opportunity to try out and develop new teaching ideas, new methods, and new ways of enriching her personal and professional potential. She has developed experiential and off-campus programs in Latin America, expanding what she teaches in the classroom while enriching her students’ direct contact with the cultures, languages, and peoples of some of the Latin American countries studied at Wells.
