A
MULTIDISCIPLINARY MAJOR
-
The name of the environmental
major at Wells, "Environmental Policy, Science and Values", reflects the
multidisciplinary nature of our environmental studies curriculum.
-
In the major the science of
environmental problems is analyzed in the broader context of environmental
economics, environmental policy and human value systems.
-
In her second or third year
of study each student chooses to concentrate either in environmental science,
or in environmental policy and values.
A
PROGRAM WHERE LOCAL MEETS GLOBAL
-
The Wells environmental program
is intimately linked to the spectacular natural environment that surrounds
the Wells campus.
-
We are involved with the Cayuga
Watershed Restoration and Protection Plan, a regional program for local
environmental protection.
-
The unique "Cayuga Basin Project"
entails the study of Cayuga Lake and its watershed in many classes and
research projects.
-
We are also affiliated with
environmental programs around the world.
Through our School
for Field Studies affiliation, environmental students have spent semesters
and summers in:
-
Baja, Mexico, on a program that
focuses on Coastal Studies,
-
South Caicos Island in the Caribbean,
on a Marine Resource Studies Program,
-
British Columbia, at a Center
for Coastal Rainforest and Fisheries Studies,
-
Costa Rica, on a program that
focuses on Sustainable Development,
-
Kenya, at a Center for Wildlife
Studies,
-
Australia, on a Rainforest Studies
Program.
The School for Field Studies
gives Wells students the opportunity to work with students from other colleges
and with local people to address environmental issues.
We have a new affiliation
with University College, Cork, Ireland, which has courses in environmental
areas that are particularly appealing to Wells environmental majors. In
particular, a course in Irish ecosystems is especially designed to introduce
visiting students to the ecology of Ireland.
INTERNSHIP
OPPORTUNTIES

Recent Wells environmental majors
have done internships that involved working on wildlife rehabilitation,
