BRUCE BENNETT had a poem published in The Formalist, two poems in Light, and three poems in Paintbrush. On April 18, he gave a reading at the Cortland Rotary Club. Professor Bennett’s book, Navigating The Distances: Poems New and Selected, was chosen as one of the "Top Ten Poetry Books of 1999" by BOOKLIST, which is published by the American Library Association.

CHRISTOPHER BAILEY, along with five Wells Students, attended the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, April 26-30, at the University of Montana, Missoula. Professor Bailey has been asked to review grant proposals for the National Science Foundation’s Course, Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) program in Crystal City, Virginia, July 17-20. He has also been invited to participate in a workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the ChemLinks Coalition, to be held at Beloit College, June 14-17.

NIAMH O’LEARY conducted a workshop for the Fall Creek Watershed Network in April. The workshop was designed to train members of the general public on how to monitor local streams for coliform bacteria. In February, Professor O’Leary organized an educational program on water quality for the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network.

LINDA SCHWAB has been invited to serve in the advisory group for the Science Education website being developed by the Science Education Commission of the American Scientific Affiliation. On April 19, Professor Schwab served as a panelist for the Campus Ministry Luncheon Series discussion on "Faith and Science" at Cayuga Community College; her remarks have been published on the "Science for Younger Students" page of the American Scientific Affiliation website.

In April, the Wells Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, conducted by CRAWFORD THOBURN, traveled to Massachusetts to present two concerts in collaboration with the choral ensembles of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the Boston University Choral Society, and Orchestra. Featured work in the concerts given at St. Columkille Church in Brighton on April 29 and at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester on April 30 was the "Gloria" by 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc, whose birth centenary is being observed this year. On May 7, the Wells choral ensembles presented their annual Spring concert in Barler Recital Hall featuring a variety of choral literature for women’s voices, including works by Tallis, Pergolesi, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Hovhannes, and Pinkham.

THOMAS VAWTER was asked by the School for Field Studies to be a program reviewer for their program in Kenya. He served with Professor Todd Livdahl of Clark University and Professor Richard Primack of Boston University as a team to conduct the review on-site from February 14 to the 28th. They have submitted their report to Ed Stashko, the Dean at School for Field Studies.

JENNY YATES was recently invited by the Full Circle Center for the Arts, Jungian and Yoga Studies in Syracuse, New York, for a book signing and discussion of her book, Jung on Death and Immortality.

MARGARET FLOWERS was a panelist for the Campus Ministry Luncheon Series discussion on "Faith and Science" at Cayuga Community College on April 19, 2000. The text of her prepared remarks has been published on the youth page of the American Scientific Affiliation website. Also on April 19, Professor Flowers conducted the contemporary Easter oratorio, "I Will Follow Christ," performed in Barler Auditorium at Wells.
