| Nearly
forty years ago, Wells College recognized the need to link a liberal arts
education to the real world. Today, the Wells College Internship
Program is widely known for the variety of placements as well as the quality
of work its students produce. Academic credit is awarded for
successfully completed internships, so students work with faculty in the
Wells College majors and minors to set goals and learning objectives.
Students of all class years may participate in the Internship Program,
and internships are the most popular way to meet the Wells College Experiential
Learning Requirement.
With the assistance of staff
and faculty and a database of more than 1000 previously completed internships,
students may choose a placement in their home communities or, if practical,
another city, state, or country. Internships normally take place
during the January Intersession and/or summer, but internships during a
semester are also possible in nearby communities or on campus. Internship
sites for the nearly 200 internships completed during a recent academic
year include public and private schools, history museums, art museums,
federal, state and local governments, not-for-profits, environmental organizations,
hospitals, veterinary clinics, theaters, and private businesses large and
small in 22 states and 5 foreign countries. Many students have
received job offers and graduate school acceptances because of the excellent
and varied real world experiences gained through the Internship Program.
