U.S. Trustee Tracy Hope Davis ’86

Commencement Speaker

Alumna and U.S. Trustee Tracy Hope Davis ’86 will deliver the 2015 Commencement address.

The following letter was sent to the members of the Wells senior class.

Dear Seniors:

Taking into consideration the qualities you had hoped to see in a speaker for your Commencement, we invited a highly accomplished Wells alumna to address your class. U.S. Trustee Tracy Hope Davis ’86 has accepted our invitation and will deliver your Commencement address.

As the U.S. Trustee responsible for leading one of the 21 regional U.S. Trustee Offices nationwide, Ms. Davis is a member of the United States Trustee Program, a component of the Department of Justice, which is responsible for overseeing the administration of bankruptcy cases and private trustees under the Federal bankruptcy codes. As the media release notes, “Ms. Davis has been a part of the U.S. Trustee Program since she joined as a trial attorney in 1997. She served as Assistant U.S. Trustee and Acting U.S. Trustee in various locations in New York before being appointed U.S. Trustee for New York, Connecticut and Vermont (Region 2) in August 2010. In 2013, Attorney General Eric Holder appointed Ms. Davis as U.S. Trustee for Northern and Eastern California and Nevada, an office which she currently holds. Before joining the U.S. Trustee Program, Ms. Davis practiced bankruptcy law in New York City and served as law clerk to the Honorable Cornelius Blackshear, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York (retired).”

After graduating from Wells with honors, Ms. Davis received her law degree from Rutgers Law School in Newark, N.J. Since then she has remained connected to the College through her service on the Board of Trustees and the Board of the Wells College Association of Alumnae and Alumni, as well as through her family -- her sister, Lisa Davis, graduated from Wells in 2004 and her nephew, Dillon Davis-Tirado, is currently a sophomore.

Commencement will be here before we know it and I look forward to celebrating with you!

Best,

Thomas E.J. de Witt
